COUNSELING Pastoral Counseling is available for those who are dealing with personal or family life challenges. Pastor Jim is dedicated to providing a compassionate listening ear and sound Biblical advice. Pastoral Counseling sessions usually last about 45 minutes and are free of charge. To request an appointment, please call 210-473-9743 or you can email Pastor@PopCommunityChurch.org What is Pastoral Counseling? Pastoral Counseling is a confidential meeting of two or more people in which a pastoral counselor listens to the counselee describe a personal or family life problem while the pastoral counselor gives empathy, hope, encouragement, prayer, and advice based on wisdom from the Bible. A pastoral counseling session is conducted in a one hour time period. The pastoral counselor spends that time listening, asking questions, and giving advice intended to help the counselee resolve the challenges they are having. The pastoral counselor uses prayer and scripture to welcome God’s presence into the healing process. Sometimes one session is all that is needed while other times the pastoral counselor suggests a series of 3-10 follow-up sessions. Because pastoral counseling is only one part of the overall ministry to individuals and families at POPCC, counselees are encouraged to participate in weekly worship services, small groups, seminars, and fellowships at POPCC in order to achieve the maximum benefit from pastoral counseling. What type of situations can Pastoral Counseling help with? Premarital Pastoral counseling is not mental health care. We do not perform psychiatric evaluations nor do we prescribe medication.
